David graduated from The University of Edinburgh in Business Studies and qualified as a chartered accountant with Ernst & Young and then spent 5 years in the E&Y corporate finance team and joined Beltrae as a Director in February 2005.
David has been specialising in Mergers & Acquisitions since 2000 and has completed over 120 M&A transactions in a combination of sales, acquisitions & MBO's, including some recent major transactions such as the sale of Avoca, Relay Software and several acquisitions by Learningpool Ltd including their latest acquisition in December 2020 of Remote Learner Inc in the US.
In 2021 David acted for the shareholders of Metacompliance Ltd in the sale of a significant shareholding to Tenzing (a London based private equity firm). Also in 2021 David acted for Learningpool Ltd on the sale of a majority shareholding to Marlin Equity Partners, which was reported in the media as a deal of £150m in value.
In 2022 David led the sale of 3173 Ltd to the London private equity firm, Synova
In 2023/24 David acted for the shareholders of Kairos Ltd on their successful sale to the US based Teamworks Inc, and the shareholders of Northside Ltd on their successful sale to Bestport Private Equity.

David is a keen golfer and an active member of Malone Golf Club. He was an active hockey player for his university and played for Instonians for many years where he now coaches the juniors.
